– Donovanosis
T reatm ent is g iv en for a m inim um of 14 d ays, long er if necessary, until th e com plete
d isappearance of th e lesions (oth erwise risk of recurrence):
azithromycin P O : 1 g th e first d ay th en, 500 m g once d aily
or
doxycyline P O : 200 m g /d ay in 2 d iv id ed d 4oses
or
erythromycin P O : 2 g /d ay in 2 or 4 d iv id ed d oses
In HIV infected patients, ad d gentamicin IM : 3 to 6 m g /kg /d ay in 1 or 2 injections.
Treatment of the partner
T h e sexual partner receiv es th e sam e treatm ent as th e patient, w h eth er or not
sym ptom s are present, except in th e case of g enital h erpes (th e partner is treated only if
sym ptom atic).
4 Doxycycline is contra-indicated in pregnant women and breast-feeding women.
